Improving the CMS-HCC Risk Adjustment Model

I work with another student on analyzing the existing diagnosis to Hierarchical Condition Category (HCC) mapping model implemented by CMS, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services. We seek to improve this model in balancing both next-year reimbursement prediction accuracy and robustness to gaming by private insurers.

Improving the Meniere's Disease Diagnosis Process

Meniere's Disease is characterized by several debilitating symptoms, yet current methods for diagnosing patients with this illness are insufficient. We construct and use a falling decision rule list as an interpretable mechanism for diagnosing patients. We are also analyzing the efficacy of endolymphatic sac decompression on treating patients with this illness.
